Reading the Wind -- Čitati vetar
« poslato: Novembar 21, 2007, 10:24:39 posle podne »

Well the hardest but most important skill to master in long range shooting is to read the wind. I have tried every method I can find and still say it is more an art than a science. IF you can honestly read the wind and adjust your scope and be on your good <!-- s:roll: --><!-- s:roll: --> , as for myself I am not that lucky, so I use a wind meter to help me get into the ball part. now don't get me wrong <!-- s:? -->:?<!-- s:? -->  having a wind meter is not going to make it to where you adjust and your dead on every time cause wind is like women VERY unpredictable <!-- s:wink: --><!-- s:wink: --> . But I find that using a good wind meter will help me 70-80% of the time if i can get to where the wind is 12 o'clock to 6 or 9 o'clock to 3 or close to it. I have seen all kinds of meters. from the cheap ones to the holy cow that thing looks like it make coffee as well <!-- s:lol: --><!-- s:lol: --> . When your at the range and have wind socks and other things to help you it is nice but out in the field there are no socks or streamers to show you how it is that's why I like the meters!I like to shoot and hunt with all my gear so weight and size are a big item for me, that's why when i was shopping for a meter i chose the Kestrel 2000. they have all different models to choice from, but to me i like to keep it simple. the 2000 reads the wind, gusts, along with Temp which if you reload know is a big thing to look at also. the unit is really small and fits nicely in my slim leg pocket of my pants. I have used it a lot and have had it in all kinds of places and have yet for it to fail or misread once! so IMO it is something every LR shooter should have in his range bag.

Lično sam ga puno koristio i još uvek nije zakazao i zato smatram da ga svaki long-rage strelac mora imatu u svojoj opremi.

My way is to stand up and take a piss. Thats my wind gauge. The I grew up shooting. I got use to hold overs and hold offs. Now I never knew about MOA and a mil dot scope. I had no way to measure or gauge.  So I spent  many rounds of trial and error. So over time out It just built up and I knew where the bullet was going to go. I try to find different points to look at. Grass close to me. Leaves midrange. Look at the tree line. Then something close the target.
